Federal law sets the baseline, but many states and cities add their own rules. This page lists the most common restrictions that affect online orders. You are responsible for knowing the laws where you live, and we may cancel any order we cannot legally ship.
This page is a general guide, not legal advice. Laws change often, and some are being decided in court right now. Last reviewed October 24, 2026.
Ammunition
- California: ammunition ships to a licensed ammunition vendor, where you pass a state eligibility check before pickup. Details.
- New York: ammunition ships to a licensed dealer, where you complete the state background check.
- Connecticut: a valid pistol permit, eligibility certificate, or ammunition certificate is required before we ship.
- Illinois: a valid FOID card is required, and the shipping address must match your FOID card or driver’s license.
- Massachusetts: a valid License to Carry (LTC) or Firearms ID card is required before we ship.
- New Jersey: a valid Firearms Purchaser ID card or handgun purchase permit is required before we ship.
- Colorado: buyers must be 21 or older, and the carrier must verify your age at delivery.
- We cannot ship ammunition to: Washington, D.C., Alaska, Hawaii, or U.S. territories. Some other cities and counties, including Chicago and Cook County, Illinois, have their own rules, so check before you order.
When a permit or license is required, we will ask you to send a copy before your order ships.
Magazines
These states limit magazine capacity, usually to 10 rounds (15 in Colorado, and different limits for some firearm types in Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, and Vermont): California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Washington, D.C. Oregon’s voter-approved limit has been tied up in court. Some cities add their own limits. We will not ship a magazine that is over the limit for your ship-to address.
Firearms
- Several states and some cities ban or restrict certain semi-automatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns, and new laws continue to pass.
- Some states only allow dealers to sell handguns from an approved list, including California, Massachusetts, and Maryland.
- Some states require a permit, license, or safety certificate before you buy, and many have waiting periods. Your local dealer can tell you exactly what you need.

Ask your local dealer, or contact us before you order. We would rather answer a question than cancel an order.
