Bought a firearm online or from a private party in California? Have it shipped to us, and we will handle the California paperwork so you can take it home legally. Buying from us online and live elsewhere? See How to Buy a Firearm Online.
How it works
- Contact us first to confirm we can accept your transfer and get our current transfer fee.
- Give the seller our FFL information. We will send a copy of our license to the seller on request.
- We receive the firearm and contact you when it arrives.
- Come in to start your DROS. Bring your ID, your Firearm Safety Certificate, and proof of residency if it is a handgun.
- Wait 10 days while the California DOJ runs its background check.
- Pick it up. Complete the safe handling demonstration and take home a California-approved safety device.
Fees
- Our transfer fee, per firearm (contact us for current pricing)
- California DROS fees, currently $37.19 for a purchase, collected at the start of your transfer
What we can transfer
Handguns transferred through a dealer generally must be on the California DOJ Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale, unless the transfer is exempt (for example, a private party transfer). Long guns must be California-compliant. If you are not sure, ask us before you buy.
Before you buy
Check that the seller ships to California and to FFLs. Firearms cannot be shipped directly to your home.
